OMSB Medical Simulation Center to be accredited as an International Training Unit (ITU) for Point of Care Ultrasound

The OMSB Medical Simulation Center (MSC) conducted the third  introductory Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) course entitled “Ultrasound Life Support Basic Level 1 Provider Course - BL1” on December 5-6, 2013. This course is accredited by WINFOCUS organization (World Interactive Network Focused On Critical Ultrasound). A total of 22 physicians from different hospitals in the Sultanate attended the course. The BL1 course integrates POCUS with advanced Life support protocols (ATLS, ACLS) using the familiar ABCD approach to provide comprehensive and systematic assessment of the patient. In addition to the didactic lectures, the course provide over 10 hours of hands on practice on volunteers.  The course is  designed to give an approach on using POCUS in critically ill patients, hence any clinician who may encounter a critical patient in his practice will certainly benefit from it.

The core ultrasound training faculty at the MSC consist of 5 instructors (Dr.Mohamed Al-Shamsi, as course director, Dr.Mustafa Al-Hinai, Dr.Badr Al-Hamrashdi, Dr.Idrees Al-Farsi and Dr.Salim Al-Ghannami). The MSC is planning to expand its ultrasound training courses in 2014 to include advanced POCUS applications such as: MSK ultrasound and cardiac ultrasound. The vision is to Improve Primary, Emergency, and Critical Care Medicine, by incorporating 'point-of-care' Ultrasound into Clinical Practice.
